Indian Railways reported a train accident involving Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express derailing in Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh around 2:35 pm today has left four dead and several others injured. Two NDRF teams and five ambulances have been dispatched for rescue operations at this site in Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh.

Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh (UP), took immediate notice of the dibrugarh Express accident and instructed officials to reach the scene immediately and expedite relief work and ensure medical treatment for injured. Furthermore, he has requested assistance for affected families as well as offering prayers for those lost in this tragedy. UP CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has also been apprised of this situation and is closely monitoring it.

Passengers reported being terrified and screaming out when their trains came to an abrupt halt, according to reports from eye witnesses.

Reports indicate that at the time of the accident, a train carrying around 250 passengers – women and children alike – was on board. All injured parties have been transported to nearby hospitals for treatment while police work to identify what caused it.

India’s railway network is notorious for frequent accidents, with passenger trains often bearing the brunt. A train collision that left nine dead and 60 others injured occurred on June 12 in West Bengal after its driver disregarded a red signal while crossing over a railway bridge at Rangapani and ignored red signals at crossing points; his train collided with another container wagon before collapsing on its tracks; after which, the driver was arrested for culpable homicide.

As soon as news of this accident broke, UP Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak tweeted that a medical van of Indian Railways has reached the scene and helpline numbers have been provided to victims. He added “We are in touch with Assam Govt for any necessary assistance”.

Railways have been inundated with calls and messages on social media from people wishing to ensure the wellbeing of loved ones affected by an accident on Thursday evening. Many Twitter users have also posted visuals from the scene.

This misfortunate train, from Delhi to Dibrugarh in Assam, was one of the main travel corridors. Many passengers have been left stranded after its derailment.
