Thamizhachi Thangapandian Video Viral: She Wants To Have dinner with LTTE Prabhakaran

Thamizhachi Thangapandian Video Viral

The State Congress group on Monday indicated its displeasure with its Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam ally’s (DMK) member Thamizhachi Thangapandian praise for Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) leader V Prabhakaran, people familiar with the situation said.

A 12-second clip from The Federal’s news site’s interview with Thamizhachi Thangapandian has been circulated on social media and has caused controversy. In the purported video in which she was asked what historical figure she would prefer to have dinner with and what questions she would like to ask, the person, Thamizhachi Thangapandian, who was one of the Lok Sabha MPs, said, “Methagu Thesiya Thalaivar Prabhakaran.” She said that the politician would “apologize to him and ask his pardon for that Mullivaikal tragedy.” HT did not independently verify the authenticity of the clip.

The moment it was the time that the Sri Lankan army wiped out the LTTE, ending the bloody three-decade war on the island in May 2009, hundreds of Tamil civilians were killed in Mullivaikal village within the province of northern Sri Lanka.

The LTTE was established in May 1976 under the leadership of Velupillai Prabhakaran, who was the leader of the struggle for an independent country for Tamils from Sri Lanka. The LTTE utilized real problems of discrimination based on language as well as political disenfranchisement and anti-Tamil riots within the nation’s Sinhalese-Buddhist majority. They are the majority; however, they embraced the ideology of terror and violence as the means of achieving their goal.

On May 21, 1991, former premier Rajiv Gandhi was killed at Chennai’s Sriperumbudur by a suicide attacker (Dhanu/Thenmozhi Rajarathinam) belonging to the LTTE. Sixteen individuals, including Rajiv Gandhi as well as Dhanu, were killed in the attack, and about 45 were wounded. The LTTE was behind the assassination to get revenge on Gandhi’s decision to dispatch the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) to intervene in the country in 1987 between 1987 and 1990.

A eulogy to Prabakaran isn’t a popular choice for any member of Congress—the Party’s MLA Karti Chidambaram- in a blog post about X on the morning of Monday. “To cover up the shameful murder of Rajiv Gandhi and 17 Tamils isn’t acceptable. The alleged Prabhakaran Veerappan Tamil Nationalism can be described as roguelike Hindutva Nationalism.”

State Congress working president Mohan Kumaramangalam used a UN report regarding the Mullivaikal incident, which stated that the LTTE did not surrender and was prepared to take the lives of civilians. “You want to apologize for this?” asked Kumaramangalam. “I am shocked to hear a member of the Indian parliament say what you have.”

It is known that the Gandhi family has, on numerous occasions, stated that they had “forgiven” the killers of Rajiv Gandhi. However, they have not been able to do so. Congress party, at the central and state levels, have repeatedly objected to the release of seven convicts who were released from prison in November.

The state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party described Karti’s reference to Tamil Hindutva nationalists as a bit arrogant and unwise. “If you are concerned, the next second you will be out of Congress, or Congress will be out of DMK alliance,” declared the state BJP vice-president Narayanan Thirupathy.
